  • Tenants Conference

    24 March 2015

Access for All - more than just a home

On Sunday 14 September 2014 tenants from all our geographical areas had an opportunity to meet over a light lunch and share their experiences of being a tenant of Arklet Housing Association.    The occasion –  Arklet Housing Association’s Tenants’ Conference.

Tenants’ Forum members worked extremely hard, along with the staff of Arklet, to look for a suitable venue and put together an interesting programme of activities to make the day a success. Mrs Steel, Chair of the Tenants’ Forum opened the Conference with a warm welcome and invited tenants to take part in the table networking and to visit the information village.

Mr Iain Wallace, Tenants’ Forum member delivered a keynote speech on the functions and responsibilities of Arklet which is - more than just a home. John Meechan, the newly appointed Chair of the Management Committee, attended and took the opportunity to introduce himself and meet the tenants.

Each tenant was given a handset allowing them to vote on the Association’s Service Standards.  This inter-active presentation on Service Standards allowed tenants to take part and instantly see the outcome of the vote.

The Conference was very well supported by outside agencies including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, NHS 24, Age Concern Scotland, Care and Repair, HealthynHappy, Nourished by Nature and Finn’s Place.

A number of the external agencies took part in the Information Village as did Mr Joseph, our Tenants’ Forum representative, who was raising awareness of the clubs and activities sub group and their involvement in increasing social activities within the developments.

During the course of the day tenants took part in workshops put on by Nourished by Nature with a cookery demonstration attracting a number of tenants who picked up recipes as well as tasters.  The Bell Group provided information and advice on paint colours in the home and tenants had a game of “paint bingo”.

Contractors and suppliers to Arklet Housing Association donated gifts for our raffle, which included vouchers for M & S and Morrisons, a selection of wines and chocolates and a television.  Congratulations to Mrs Lester from Walton Court who won the television.

Mr Iain Wallace, Tenant Forum member closed the Conference reflecting on the content of the day and thanked everyone for their support.

From the feedback on the day you told us:
