Brucefield Park Project

Artists Impression

Brucefield Park is an area of 250 properties in the Lochend area of Greater Easterhouse.

The housing stock is predominantly Post War Wilson Block tenements with little or no insultaiton.  Many of the properties suffer from water penetration, dampness and inefficient heating systems with others having no heating system at all.  Added to these problems are issues of Social deprivation, fuel poverty, anti-social behaviour, slum landlords and a community in meltdown.

The Local Councillor approach Lochfield Park and asked if there was any way we could help the residents living in the area.  The Association was also approached by a student from Glasgow University studying for a BA Community Development who asked if he could work with the residents to see if he could help them as part of his University Course.  Lochfield Park agreed to support this initiative and over the last 9 months the student has been engaging with the local community to try and build capacity within the local residents.  The Association has been providing staff time and office resources including office and committee space to allow the student to work with the Brucefield Park community / residents and the project is moving ahead at great speed to a current position where Scottish Government and Local Authority Funding has been sourced to undertake major external fabric improvement works to the first 66 properties.
