Wider Role

Wider Role Work
Paisley South Housing Association core activities relate to developing, managing and maintaining socially rented homes while also providing factoring and estate management services to owners in the area.

In addition to the core tasks, Paisley South is involved in a number of other activities that are often referred to as 'wider role'. These projects usually have some connection to housing and, in addition, tend to be aimed at improving one of the following:

•the environment
•employment opportunities
•local communities
Often the projects would be too small to be run by one Association. Paisley South works jointly with other Housing Associations in the Renfrewshire Area, known as FLAIR (the Federation of Local Associations in Renfrewshire) to make them more effective. The Associations make a contribution by devoting some staff time to monitoring the projects. Currently, we are involved in the following wider action projects:

Welfare Rights Service ( for further information click here)
The aim of this project is to provide specific welfare benefits advice to tenants and residents within the Association's areas. Some of the main aspects of the role are to provide comprehensive advice to new tenants, residents experiencing debt problems and casework with specific groups. It is intended that this project will assist local residents with areas like housing benefit, claiming correct benefits (i.e. Working Families Tax Credit, Incapacity Benefit etc) and managing their income more effectively.
