Welfare Reform

Welfare Reform

The Government is making big changes to the benefits system from April 2013.

The changes will merge six benefits into one monthly payment called Universal Credit:

  • housing benefit
  • income based jobseeker's allowance
  • income support
  • child tax credit
  • working tax credit
  • income related employment support allowance

Some of the changes may mean that you receive less money in benefits and you will have to budget for things such as your rent and other bills to make sure you don’t run out of money.

We know that many of our residents will be worried about what this could mean for them and their families. Click on the sections below for more information and how you can prepare for the change.

Contact your Housing Officer for more advice and information on how we can work together to tackle any challenges you may face with changes to the benefits system.
