Tenants Support Service

Paisley South Housing Association offers a Tenancy Support Service to tenants who are experiencing difficulties in managing their tenancy.  The Tenancy Support Service has been established as part of the Association’s “wider role” activities where we jointly employ two Tenant Support Officers within FLAIR (Federation of Local Associations In Renfrewshire).

The Tenant Support Service is available to all tenants and provides information and advice on a range of areas, including:

  • Support needs including alcohol and drug related issues
  • Mental health issues
  • First tenancy advice
  • Difficulty in maintaining tenancy
  • Threat of court action
  • Personal safety
  • Homelessness prevention

This service is free and confidential.

How to contact our Tenant Support Officer

Please contact your Housing Officer who will make a referral to the Tenant Support Service who can arrange to meet tenants either at the association’ office or make home visits.

Since the introduction of the Tenant Support Service in 2007, the Association has made 59 referrals to Suzanne.

An example of the kind of help which has been given is:

This case was referred as the tenant had high rent arrears, was not responding to requests for contact and was going to court. Repeated attempts at contact were made unsuccessfully up until the day of the court hearing. A continuation was granted to allow the tenant to make rent payments. The Support Officer established that there were multiple debts and with the tenant's agreement made a referral to an external agency, Christians against Poverty ( CAP). Despite this assistance the tenant again stopped responding to all attempts at contact and court action progressed with a view to eviction for non payment of rent.

Just prior to the court hearing the tenant contacted Suzanne and assistance was given to get representation from the Paisley Law Centre. The outcome, through the assistance given, is the tenant has successfully retained her tenancy, has set up a CAP account and is paying rent and arrears along with other debts they have.
